At Task Outdoor, we aim to provide fit-for-purpose gear. Nothing is perfect, and regardless of brand or price, sometimes things do not work out. When that happens, our customer service team is here to get the problem solved quickly.
This page sets out our returns promise for customers in Australia and New Zealand. It applies in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or, in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. Nothing in this policy limits or replaces those rights.
Change-of-mind returns: our 100-day promise
If you change your mind, you can return most items within 100 days of the date of purchase, provided they are:
- new, unused and in a resaleable condition, and
- returned with all original packaging, tags and accessories.
We understand that some of our specialist customers are sometimes unable to meet the 100-day limit. If that applies to you, get in touch and we will look at your return case by case.
For change-of-mind returns, you pay the return postage. The item remains your responsibility until it reaches us, so we recommend a tracked international service with enough extra cover for the value of your parcel. We cannot be held responsible for loss, delay or damage in transit, and as we are not the sender we cannot contact the carrier on your behalf. If in doubt, ask Australia Post or NZ Post which service they recommend, giving them the dimensions, weight and value of your parcel.
Items made or personalised to your order, sealed items that have been opened and are not suitable for return on hygiene grounds, and gift cards cannot be returned for change of mind. This does not affect your rights if the item is faulty.
Returning a parcel from Australia or New Zealand takes time and postage, so please check the size information on the product page before you order. We go to great lengths to make sure all our clothing has size information, as sizes vary from brand to brand and product to product.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect items
If your item is faulty, arrives damaged, is not as described, or is not fit for purpose, your consumer rights apply whether or not you are within our 100-day window.
Customers in Australia
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
- For a major failure, you can choose a refund or a replacement.
- For a minor failure, we will put it right with a free repair, a replacement or a refund, within a reasonable time.
Customers in New Zealand
Under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, goods must be of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and match their description.
- If the failure is of a substantial character, you can choose to return the item for a refund or a replacement, or keep it and be compensated for the drop in its value.
- If the failure is not substantial, we will put it right with a free repair, a replacement or a refund, within a reasonable time.
- You can also claim compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage caused by the failure.
In both countries
- If we sent the wrong item or made a mistake with your order, we will put it right at no cost to you.
- We cover the return cost. Where you have paid to send a faulty item back, we will reimburse reasonable postage, so please keep your receipt.
- Original packaging is not required for a faulty-item return, though we may ask for proof of purchase.
Please email us before sending a faulty item back, with your order number and a short description or photo of the problem, so we can agree the best way to return it.
Exchanges
If you would like a different size or colour, let us know when you contact us. We will check stock and confirm the options with you before you send the original item back.
For change-of-mind exchanges, you pay the postage to return the original item and the postage for the replacement to be sent out to you. If you are exchanging because the item is faulty or we made a mistake, we cover the cost.
How to return an item
- Email sales@taskoutdoor.co.uk with your order number and whether you would like a refund or an exchange. For faulty items, include a short description or photo of the problem.
- Pack the items securely with a note giving your full name, address, telephone number or email, your order number and a short description of the problem or exchange. No return form is needed.
- Complete the customs declaration, describing the contents as Returned goods and quoting your order number. This helps UK customs see that the parcel is a return, not a new sale.
- Send the parcel to the address below.
Return Address: Task Outdoor Returns, C/O Big Yellow Storage, 8-9 Rodney Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, PO4 8BF, United Kingdom
Refunds
Once your return has arrived and been inspected, we will process your refund to the original payment method used for the order. For change-of-mind returns, we refund the price paid for the items. Refunds are normally issued within 5 working days of the items reaching us, though it can take a little longer for the funds to appear on your statement depending on your bank or card provider.
