A hanging egg chair turns a corner of the garden into the spot everyone quietly competes for. This is the full range of hanging chairs, hammock chairs, stands and covers, from a light cotton seat that packs into a bag to a two-seater Globo Royal that stays out all summer.
Two families sit here. Hammock chairs are the light option: cotton or Elltex fabric, a spreader bar, and little enough weight to move between a beam and a branch or pack away for winter. The Brasil, Panama and Belize chairs suit a shaded corner or a child's room as readily as the patio. Egg chairs are the permanent version, hanging a deep woven basket from a frame, with Globo Single models for one and Globo Royal models wide enough for two.
Nothing here hangs itself. If you have a solid beam or a mature branch, a hook and rope will do. Otherwise you need a stand: the Globo Single and Globo Royal Double stands are matched to their chairs, and the Luna Rockstone and Atlas stands take hanging chairs more generally. Allow roughly 1.5m by 1.5m of floor for a single chair on a stand, plus clearance for the swing.
Left outside, cushions and cord take a beating. Weather covers are cut to fit the Globo Single, Globo Royal, Siena and Lounge Bed, and pulling one over in October is the difference between five seasons and two. For seating that folds and travels, our camping chairs are the packable alternative, and full-size hammocks cover the lying-down end of the garden.
