What does 50+5L mean?
50L in the main body, plus roughly 5L more when the extendable lid is raised. It gives you headroom on the days you are carrying extra food or a bulky layer without buying a bigger pack.
Is 60L too big for a weekend?
Usually, yes. A part-empty pack carries badly because the load moves. If most of your trips are one or two nights, 31L to 50L will carry better.
What is a bergen?
The military term for a large-capacity rucksack, typically with a rigid frame, a substantial hip belt and side pouches or MOLLE for expanding the load. In practice it means an expedition pack built for field use rather than hill walking.
How do I stop the weight sitting on my shoulders?
Load the heavy items close to your back and level with your shoulder blades, then fasten the hip belt first and take the shoulder straps up afterwards. Most of the weight should sit on your hips.
