Orbie is a UK cooler brand making rotomoulded hard cool boxes and vacuum insulated drinkware for barbecues, campsites, beaches and boat days. The brand grew out of a love of cooking outdoors with cold drinks and good food alongside, and the whole range is built around one job: keeping food and drink at temperature for as long as you are out. The coolers are rotomoulded from LDPE, so the lid and the base each come out of the mould as a single piece, with no seams or bonded joins to split after a knock or a drop. Up to three inches of insulating foam sits between the walls on every face, lid included, and a full-perimeter rubber gasket, like the seal on a fridge door, is pulled tight by two latches that work with cold hands or gloves on. Every cooler comes with a wire basket and a divider that lifts out to double as a chopping board, plus a bolted-in bottle opener and a screw-out drain plug.

The drinkware follows the same idea at a smaller scale: double-walled, vacuum insulated stainless steel under a powder coat finish, with interchangeable lids in the box so one bottle or cup covers more than one way of drinking. How long do Orbie coolers keep ice?

Orbie deliberately do not publish a rated hold time, because too much changes it: the outside temperature, how warm the load is when it goes in, and how often the lid is opened. In their own indoor test, a cooler filled with a couple of bags of ice and left in a kitchen still had ice in it after seven days. Treat that as a kitchen test rather than a rating; on a hot day with a warm load it will be shorter. Pre-chill the box, pack it full and keep the lid shut.

Which size Orbie cooler do I need?

The Orbie 35 holds 33 litres, or 36 x 330ml cans with ice, and weighs 8.7kg empty, so it is a carry cooler for day trips, a garden barbecue or a weekend away. The Orbie 55 Wheeled holds 55 litres, or 74 cans, and weighs 14.5kg empty; the wheels and tow handle are there because it is too heavy to carry far once loaded, and lifting it into a boot is a two-person job.

Can I keep food hot in an Orbie cooler?

Yes. The insulation works both ways, and Orbie use their coolers to rest brisket and pork shoulder after cooking. Their guidance is to let boiled water settle to 85°C before it goes in and to wrap the meat in foil and a cloth. The LDPE body is rated to 85°C, so nothing hotter than that should go into it.

What warranty do Orbie products carry?

Orbie cover their coolers and drinkware with a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship under normal use, repaired or replaced at Orbie's discretion.
