The Snugpak Antarctic Mat WGTE is a UK-made insulated sleeping mat designed for extreme cold weather, military use and winter expeditions where inflatable mats fail. Instead of air chambers that can freeze, crack or develop valve failures in sub-zero conditions, it uses Softie® Premier insulation — the same fill used in Snugpak's UK-made sleeping bags — to prevent convective heat loss between your body and the ground.

Softie® Premier is manufactured at Snugpak's factory in West Yorkshire. It provides consistent warmth even when damp, and the Paratex Light outer wicks moisture from the sleeping bag through to the underside of the mat, keeping your sleeping bag dry. Hook-and-loop fasteners around all four edges allow two mats to be joined for a double-layered sleeping surface, or a single mat to be used as a poncho, a hammock underquilt, or folded to fit confined sleeping spaces. At 560g with a pack size of 32 x 16cm, it is lighter and more compact than most self-inflating mats, fitting inside a rucksack rather than strapping to the outside.

Key Features

  • No valves or air chambers - Softie® Premier insulation cannot freeze, crack or fail in sub-zero temperatures where rubber-based inflatable mats become unreliable
  • Softie® Premier insulation - UK-made fill provides dependable thermal protection and wicks perspiration away from the sleeping system
  • Paratex Light outer fabric - Lightweight, windproof, water-repellent 100% nylon; wicks moisture through to the ground below
  • Hook-and-loop fasteners around all edges - Join two mats for extra insulation; use as a poncho, hammock underquilt, blanket or ground protection layer
  • Ground protection layer - Can be placed under the tent floor to protect against stones, roots and rough terrain
  • Easy field repair - Repairable with duct tape in the field without loss of function
  • Compression stuff sack included - Packs to 32 x 16cm, compact enough to fit inside a rucksack rather than strapping to the outside
