Ankle zip openings make pulling them on over boots or wellies straightforward rather than a wrestle, and also provide a useful bit of ventilation on warmer days. The heavyweight polycotton handles light rain and rough vegetation without complaint, though these are not weatherproof; for wet conditions, the Weardale Waterproof Trousers or Ashcombe Trousers are the better choice.
