Description
The Highlander Blackthorn 1+ Gen2 is the roomier solo tent in the Blackthorn range, at 83cm high and 105cm wide against the standard Blackthorn 1 Gen2's 68cm and 85cm. That extra 15cm of height is the difference between lying down and being able to prop up and sort your kit without crawling outside. The low-profile tunnel construction keeps it stable on exposed ground and small enough for bikepacking, while the 255cm floor gives taller campers full length with room for a wide sleeping mat and a pack alongside. The 190T polyester flysheet is rated to 2000mm with taped seams, over a fully sewn-in 190T groundsheet rated to 3000mm. An integrated bug net, internal hanging line, fire-retardant materials and 6.9mm fibreglass poles with eyelet-and-buckle fixing complete it. Going lighter? The Blackthorn 1 Gen2 saves 390g. Sharing? Take the two-person Blackthorn 2 Gen2. Available in Scarab Green and HMTC Camo.
Is this the right tent for you?
Straight answer on space, because it is the thing people get wrong with solo tents.
- 83cm interior height. You can sit up hunched, cook in the doorway and get changed without going outside. You cannot sit fully upright, and no solo tunnel tent at this weight can.
- 105cm wide sleeping area. Room for you, a wide mat and your pack alongside, rather than out in the weather.
- 255cm interior length. Full length for taller campers, with space at the head or foot for boots and a dry bag.
- 75cm covered side area by the door. Enough for boots and a wet pack. Slightly less than the Blackthorn 1 Gen2 gives you, because the extra width on this tent goes into the inner rather than the porch.
- 2.1kg packed. 390g heavier than the Blackthorn 1 Gen2. If every gram matters more than headroom, take the 1.
Not the right tent for: winter mountain use, or gram-counting ultralight setups. This is a three-season value tent, on fibreglass poles and 190T polyester, priced accordingly.
Key Features
- 83cm High, 105cm Wide - 15cm more height and 20cm more width than the Blackthorn 1 Gen2, which is the difference between lying down and sitting up to sort kit
- 255cm Interior Length - Full length for taller campers, with space at the head or foot for boots and a dry bag
- Low-Profile Tunnel Design - Streamlined shape reduces wind resistance and keeps the tent stable on exposed and open ground
- 190T Polyester Flysheet - 2000mm hydrostatic head with taped seams for waterproof protection in UK conditions
- Fully Sewn-In Groundsheet - 190T polyester rated to 3000mm keeps moisture out from below
- Integrated Bug Net - Built-in insect protection at the entrance for comfortable overnight use
- Pitches in 5 Minutes - Eyelet and buckle pole fixing for a fast, secure setup
- 6.9mm Fibreglass Poles - Flexible and cheap to replace; they take a bend without holding it
- Fire-Retardant Materials - Flysheet and groundsheet both meet fire safety standards
- Internal Hanging Line - Practical point for drying clothes or organising kit inside the tent
- Roll-Top Drybag Carry Bag - Heavy duty stuff sack with a waterproof roll-top closure, so the tent can ride on the outside of a pack in the rain, and packs down to 33 x 14cm
Ideal For
- Taller Campers - 255cm of floor and 83cm of height, so you are not folded into the ends or lying flat to change
- Wild Camping with Kit Inside - 105cm width takes you, a wide mat and your pack, so nothing sits out in the weather
- Bikepacking and Cycle Touring - Packs to 33 x 14cm for frame bags, panniers and rear racks
- Hillwalking and Exposed Ground - Low tunnel profile handles open ridges and wind-prone pitches
- Longer Trips - Space for a bigger sleeping system, spare clothing and multi-day supplies
Which Blackthorn Gen2 is right for you?
All three share the same fabrics, 2000mm flysheet and 3000mm groundsheet, and all three pitch in about five minutes. The difference is interior height, floor space and weight.
