Goes well with
The Highlander Blackthorn 1 Gen2 is the lightest tent in the Blackthorn range, at 1.71kg including the roll-top drybag and packing down to 29 x 14cm. The low-profile tunnel design keeps wind resistance low and the packed size small, which makes it a capable option for wild campers, hikepackers and bikepackers who want a reliable one-person shelter without unnecessary weight. The 190T polyester flysheet is rated to 2000mm with taped seams, over a fully sewn-in 190T groundsheet rated to 3000mm. A side storage area by the door gives you 85cm of covered ground for boots and a pack, so wet kit stays out of the inner. An integrated bug net, an internal hanging line, fire-retardant materials and 6.9mm fibreglass poles with eyelet-and-buckle fixing complete it, and the whole thing pitches in about five minutes. Need to sit up, or carry more kit? The roomier Blackthorn 1+ Gen2 gives you 83cm of height and 105cm of width. Available in Scarab Green and HMTC Camo.
Is this the right tent for you?
Straight answer on space, because it is the thing people get wrong with solo tents.
- 68cm interior height. This is a lie-down tent, not a sit-up tent. You can prop up on your elbows to cook or sort kit, but you cannot sit upright in it.
- 85cm wide sleeping area. Room for you and a standard sleeping mat, but not for your pack beside you.
- 85cm covered side area by the door. This is where the boots and the pack go. More covered ground than the 1+ gives you, because this tent keeps its width in the porch rather than the inner.
- 240cm interior length. Length is not the constraint on this tent. Height is.
- 1.71kg packed. The lightest tent in the Blackthorn range, and 390g lighter than the 1+.
Not the right tent for: winter mountain use, or anyone who wants to sit up. This is a three-season value tent, on fibreglass poles and 190T polyester, priced accordingly.
Want to sit up, or keep your kit inside with you? Take the Highlander Blackthorn 1+ Gen2, at 83cm high and 105cm wide.

OUT WITH IT
-
PITCHED BEFORE DARK
You get in later than you planned, in worse light than you wanted. Poles through, eyelets, buckles, done. Nothing to work out in the dark and nothing that needs a second pair of hands.
-
BUILT LOW ON PURPOSE
The shape is the point. Less tent standing up into the wind, and less of it flapping you awake at two in the morning. On an open pitch with nothing to break the weather, that is the difference between a night's sleep and a long night.
-
THE BIT YOU CARRY
A tent earns its place in the pack or it stays at home. This one rolls into its drybag small enough to ride on the outside in the wet, or to go inside and still leave room for the rest of your kit.
Available in three sizes
The Highlander Blackthorn range of tents all offer the same reliable performance, but with multiple size options.
