The Snugpak Torrent Jacket WGTE is a fully waterproof insulated jacket built for cold-weather outdoor use, tactical environments and demanding conditions where weather protection and warmth are both needed. The Paratex Dry outer combines a 10000mm hydrostatic head waterproof PU coating with fully taped seams and breathability of up to 7.5 litres per square metre per 24 hours, holding off rain, wind and snow while managing internal moisture during active use.

Softie synthetic insulation delivers dependable warmth in a lightweight, compressible form rated to -5°C comfort, and the Paratex Light inner adds comfort and moisture management. A detachable insulated hood zips off or stows away, with elasticated edge, drawcord and dual side and rear adjusters for a secure fit in exposed conditions, while mesh-lined underarm vents release heat during high-output activity. It comes in Forest Green and Black in sizes S to XXL.

There are two Torrents, and the warmer one is a real step up. Both use the same Paratex Dry shell, the same 10000mm hydrostatic head with fully taped seams and the same 7.5 litre breathability, so the weather protection is identical. The difference is fill. Snugpak say the Torrent Extreme Jacket carries 50% more Softie insulation, which takes it from this jacket's -5°C comfort to -12°C, at 1220g against 950g. Take this one if you are moving and want the lighter shell; take the Extreme if you are static or out in deep winter.

Six Snugpak jackets are rated -5°C, and none of them is warmer than another. What separates them is what they are, and the Torrent is the only waterproof one. Every other jacket at this rating is windproof and water-repellent but will wet out in sustained rain. The Arrowhead Jacket is the tactical insulated one at 820g. The SJ6 Jacket is UK-made at 760g. The Tactical Softie Smock is a UK-made pullover at 760g with side vent zips for holster and belt-kit access. The Sleeka Elite is the lightest at 740g in a relaxed cut, and the Sleeka Elite Reversible is that same cut at 790g with two outer faces. Three of the six have a hood and three do not: this jacket's and the Arrowhead's zip off completely, the SJ6's rolls away, and the two Sleekas and the Smock have none, which is exactly why they sit well underneath a shell like this one. If you need the rain kept out rather than shrugged off, this is the one.

Wearing a midlayer underneath? Go one size up. The Torrent is cut to a technical fit, and Snugpak's chest figures are body measurements that allow for a base layer, not for a fleece or a softie jacket under the shell.
