Snugpak Antarctic Mat WGTE

The Snugpak Antarctic Mat WGTE is a UK-made insulated sleeping mat for extreme cold, military use and winter expeditions, built for the conditions where inflatable mats let you down. In sub-zero weather, rubber-based self-inflating mats can crack as they are rolled and their valves can freeze solid. The Antarctic Mat has no valves and no air chambers to fail, relying instead on a layer of Softie Premier insulation to block convective heat loss between your body and the frozen ground.

Softie Premier is the same fill Snugpak uses in its UK-made sleeping bags, produced at the company's factory in Silsden, West Yorkshire. It holds its warmth even when damp, and the Paratex Light nylon outer draws perspiration away from your sleeping bag and out through the underside, helping the bag stay dry. Hook-and-loop fasteners run around all four edges, so two mats can be joined into a double-thickness layer, or a single mat folded to suit a hammock, a tight tent floor or a wearable wrap. At 560g and packing to 32 x 16cm in its compression sack, it stows inside a rucksack rather than strapping to the outside. It was co-developed with Snugpak brand ambassador Erik Ledroit for a Greenland expedition.
