The Bolle Komet Safety Sunglasses are built for people who spend the whole day outdoors and want eye protection that does not look like eye protection. The black wraparound frame sits close to the face so light and grit cannot get in at the sides, the temples are flat and ergonomic so they sit comfortably under a cap or ear defenders, and the whole pair weighs 30.5g.
This is the plain smoke version. The lens passes 13% of visible light and filters 99.99% of UVA and UVB, with no mirror coating on the outside, so what you get is a straightforward dark tint that looks like a normal pair of sunglasses. Both faces carry Bolle's PLATINUM Lite anti-scratch and anti-fog treatment.
The lens is marked 5-3.1 1 FT. That is an EN172 sunglare filter in the 8 to 18% band, optical class 1 for permanent wear, and F for low energy impact, meaning it resists a 6mm 0.86g ball at 45 m/s. The frame carries a lot of marking for a glass at this price: EN166 FT CE and UKCA for Britain, ANSI Z87+ for the US, AS/NZS 1337.1 for Australia and New Zealand, and CSA Z94.3 for Canada. Note that the lens marking carries no K or N, so unlike Bolle's tactical range the coating is not separately certified to EN166 for scratch and fog resistance.
