Description
The Whisker is the long-range specialist in the Nightfox range and the only device in it with genuine optical zoom. Where the Ember is fixed at 4x and the Swift and Prowl goggles sit at 1x for movement, the Whisker adjusts continuously from 1x to 10x. At 1x you get a wide 57 degree field of view for scanning; at 10x it becomes a night vision spotting scope that reaches out to around 270m.
The 3W 850nm infrared LED is focusable in its own right, so you can throw a tight beam to match the zoom rather than flooding the foreground. Nightfox call the low-light mode Ambisight: the sensor is sensitive enough to work on ambient light alone in many conditions, letting you observe with the IR switched off entirely. Full HD video with audio records to the included 32GB card, there is a tripod thread in the base, and the 5000mAh battery runs for 10 hours without IR. It is the obvious choice for ecology surveys and static observation.
