Description

The Snugpak Air Mat with Built-In Foot Pump WGTE is a lightweight inflatable sleeping mat built for military, camping, trekking and expedition use. Its integrated foot pump removes the need to carry separate inflation equipment and avoids the moisture that lung inflation forces into a mat. You place a foot on the pump and press.

Inflated to 8cm, the mat lifts you clear of cold, uneven ground and packs down to 28 x 12cm at a carry weight of 630g, so it sits easily inside a rucksack alongside the rest of your sleeping kit. The 230T/75D polyester pongee shell is built to take repeated field use, and the supplied repair patch means a puncture away from home need not cut a trip short.

Three kinds of mat in the Snugpak range, and this is the thickest. The Air Mat inflates to a full 8cm from its built-in pump, more cushioning than anything else here, and packs to 28 x 12cm at 630g. If you would rather not depend on a valve and an air chamber, the self-inflating Maxi Mat has a 25mm foam core that expands on its own at 740g, and the Midi Mat is the two-thirds-length version of it at 500g. For sub-zero use, the UK-made Antarctic Mat is solid insulation with no valves or air chambers to freeze at all.
Snugpak do not publish an R-value for this mat, and that is deliberate. The range was built for military, cadet and expedition use, much of it before R-values became a consumer talking point and before ASTM testing existed, so there is no lab figure to quote and we will not invent one. Judge it on what is measured and published instead: 8cm of inflated thickness, the 230T/75D pongee shell, 630g and a 28 x 12cm pack, all in the table below. Note too that an air mat insulates differently from a foam one, because the air inside it can circulate.
